08/21…of the day

Verse of the Day:
“Oh Thou, from whom the breath of life comes,
who fills all realms of sound, light and vibration.
May Your light be experienced in my utmost holiest.
Your Heavenly Domain approaches.
Let Your will come true – in the universe (all that vibrates)
just as on earth (that is material and dense).
Give us wisdom (understanding, assistance) for our daily need,
detach the fetters of faults that bind us,
like we let go the guilt of others.
Let us not be lost in superficial things (materialism, common temptations),
but let us be freed from that what keeps us off from our true purpose.
From You comes the all-working will, the lively strength to act,
the song that beautifies all and renews itself from age to age.
Sealed in trust, faith and truth.
~ Matt. 6:9-13 (The Lord’s Prayer – translated from first century Aramaic)  I was floored the first time I read this.  Can we recite this instead? (I have the Aramic version as well if you would like to see it.)

Quote of the Day:
“Science is not only compatible with spirituality; it is a profound source of spirituality. When we recognize our place in an immensity of light years and in the passage of ages, when we grasp the intricacy, beauty and subtlety of life, then that soaring feeling, that sense of elation and humility combined, is surely spiritual. … The notion that science and spirituality are somehow mutually exclusive does a disservice to both.”
~ Carl Sagan

07/22…of the day

Verse of the Day:
“This is what God does. He gives his best—the sun to warm and the rain to nourish—to everyone, regardless: the good and bad, the nice and nasty. If all you do is love the lovable, do you expect a bonus? Anybody can do that. If you simply say hello to those who greet you, do you expect a medal? Any run-of-the-mill sinner does that.  In a word, what I’m saying is, Grow up. You’re kingdom subjects. Now live like it. Live out your God-created identity. Live generously and graciously toward others, the way God lives toward you.”
~Matt 5:45-48

Excerpt of the Day:
“If you are in a social situation, surrounded by people or even just one person, put your phone away! Away. Learn to people watch, to read the room, to look someone in the eye and convey genuine interest.”
~ “Screen Rules” by Elizabeth Foss –  This is something I have inner dialog going on constantly about.  Especially with photography being a passion of mine.  I get wanting to capture the moment, but I think the pendulum has swung way too far on this in society (and all too often for me).  I challenge myself and you:  Be present in your life.  Don’t just document it.  Engage. Think about what experiences, interactions, and memories your are forfeiting by disengaging with the world and people around you (that you likely love a lot) to fiddle with whatever is in front of your eyes.

Lyrics of the Day:
“I’m on the hunt for who I’ve not yet become
But I’d settle for a little equilibrium
There is a war inside my heart gone silent
Both sides dissatisfied and somewhat violent
The issue I have now begun to see
I am the only lonely casualty
This is not the end though…
Cause I have sent for a warrior
From on my knees, make me a Hercules
I was meant to be a warrior please
Make me a Hercules”

Verse of the Day:
“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” ~Rom 5:8 Not when we have changed, or meet some demands, or have “earned” it.  But anyone can say they died for your sins, what sets him apart from every other offer on the table, is this...“He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. ” ~Matt 28:6  So if this promise became true, that gives us confidence to believe the rest.  It also...“Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” ~Heb 4:16

Quote of the Day:
“The cross shows the sacrifice. The empty tomb shows the power. I show up with brokenness. Jesus responds with perfect love & redemption.”

Verse of the Day:
“Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant,  and whoever wants to be first must be your slave—  just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
~Matt 20:26-28

“That is part of the beauty of all literature. You discover that your longings are universal longings, that you’re not lonely and isolated from anyone. You belong.”

Verse of the Day:
“Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”

Quote of the Day:
“I’m a 100 percent believer. Not in his arm. Not in his skills. I believe in his heart, his there-will-definitely-be-a-pony-under-the-tree optimism, the way his love pours into people, right up to their eyeballs, until they believe they can master the hopeless comeback, too.”
