01/25…of the day

Verse of the Day:
“Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work:  If one falls down, his friend can help him up. ”
~Ecc. 4:9

Quote of the Day:
“Sports fans have become accustomed to players caring only about themselves, about the money, about the accolades. Feeling entitled. There is so much to be cynical of in today’s world of sports.

And then there is the United States Women’s National Team. This team is different. Because it is different when a team plays more for the person next to them, then for themselves. When a team makes a collective effort to work towards the same goal. To achieve it together, as a unit. Support each other. Help each other. Care for each other. They are Champions on the field, because they are Champions off it.Really, this was above and beyond, supporting a teammate. This was about loving a teammate. And it was beautiful.

Verse of the Day:
“For since the world began,
no ear has heard,
and no eye has seen a God like you,
who works for those who wait for him!”

Quote of the Day:
“What promise I have found in this Badlands sunrise. What change is manifested from the presence of light. As often as I have found myself desperate and detached in an abandoned backdrop from life’s challenges, I have not always paid enough attention to the arrival of light to note a significant metamorphosis to the point where worship is possible. But to know that the potential exists—that when in the most parched and bleak environments of life, perspective can change so much so that this forsaken place actually becomes a beautiful canvas full of limitless promise … this moves me to worship, and this moves me to silence.”

I took some much needed time after moving hundreds of miles, downsizing lots of square feet, gaining 6 house-mates, changing vocational fields, taking on adolescent teens, leaving friends, and welcoming back others I am back.

Verse of the Day:
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne.”
~Heb 12:1-2

Quite possibly the best World Cup game in history (men’s or women’s) – playing a player down for 54 min. Tieing the game in the 2 min. of stoppage time in OVERTIME to send it to a Shoot Out. EPIC!
(AND 12 years to the day of the ’99 World Cup Championship Shoot Out game)

Lyrics of the Day:
“And if I were fearless
Then I’d speak my truth
And the world would hear this
That’s what I wish I’d do, yeah

If my hands could hold them you’d see
I’d take all these secrets in me
And I’d move and mold them to be
Something I’d set free

I want to darken in the skies
Open the floodgates up
I want to change my mind
I want to be enough
I want the water in my eyes
I want to cry until the end of time

I want to let the rain come down
Make a brand new ground
Let the rain come down”
~ “Let the Rain” by Sara Bareilles (the story behind the song)
